[MOD] Multilanguage Support

Hello Alexander,

I have no experience with Transifex. The entire osticket as well as the entire osticket multilanguage mod are on github. Forking the github repository or my mod is relatively easy on github ((https://github.com/thane-de-loth/osTicket-1.7), note: the github repository is not the newest wersion of this mod, it is at stable-v4. I didn't have the time yet to update to v6, will do this weekend). Once that is done you can edit all you need and set a pull request to put your changes to another repository (for example the one you made your fork of). You can also allow others to make changes in your repository. Another translator (shibby, for the dutch translation) has already used github for translation purposes. I don't know if transifex has additional features that make it better to use for translation purposes. I also don't know how the osticket developers would react on using a different platform for translation purposes.

I would suggest to try the github route first. If that isn't enough, try to ask the developers of osticket if they are ok with transifex.

Hi everyone,

I am using latest version of this mod but can't get it to work, even with the "de_DE" language.

In /var/www/html/osticket/include/gettext-conf.php, I have this:

$encoding='utf8';

$language='de_DE';

I have changed browser language and did test with testlang.php, which gives me:

Your browser preferred language is: 'de'

The following folder will be used to translate your osticket: 'de_DE'

Also:

# ls -al

total 28

drwxr-xr-x. 6 apache apache 4096 May 23 10 .

drwxr-xr-x. 8 apache apache 4096 May 23 10 ..

And gettext is enabled:

Also, it appears in info.php.

$use_php_gettext=false;

$encoding='.utf8';

Now it is working.

I've tried what we have in osTicket translation into Spanish and it works perfect

The translated files directory should be called 'es_es' and not 'es_ES'

in my case, testlang.php throws

Your browser preferred language is: 'es-cl'

The Following folder will be used to translate your osticket: 'es_es'

Hello amorino,

Sure, but the instructions depend on a vanilla osticket 1.7, the lines you have to edit probably changed a little.

You should make a backup of your current osticket, then get a vanilla version and compare the changes you have to do with the vanilla version and multilanguage mod.

Also don't forget to backup your database if you change the tables etc.

Hi!

I installed V6 on my server today - but it doesn't work. The website is on English only. mbstring is installed. I am using chmode 777 for every file.

testlang.php shows:

What can I do now?

Hello,

Some linux setups don't work with php_gettext for some reason. You could try to work around that by using the gettext extension instead. First execute the command locale -a in your teminal. Make sure it returns a type of de_DE as one of supported languages. Check that your php setup has the gettext extension enabled. If you have a shared gettext module you have to add extension=gettext.so to your php.ini.

Now open the include/gettext-conf.php. Set $use_php_gettext=true; to $use_php_gettext=false;. Also, if locale -a returned something like de_DE.UTF8 you may have to set the variable $encoding=''; to the extension it showed you, for example $encoding='.UTF8';. After that you'll have to restart your webserver and it should translate then.

Sicher, da sind einige Texte die sich etwas holprig lesen. Ich hab leider noch nicht Zeit gehabt dies zu überarbeiten, da es mir primär um die Übersetzungen als solche ging. Ich bin mir sicher, dass da auch einige Kommas falsch gesetzt sind und andere kleinere Schreibfehler vorhanden sind.

Sie können die Texte auf (https://www.transifex.com/projects/p/osticket-mod-multilanguage-s) apassen. Ich kann leider nicht genau sagen wann ich ein Packet mit allen derzeitigen Übersetzungen anfertigen kann.

Noch ein paas Hinweise dazu. Bitte weichen Sie nicht zu weit vom englischen Original ab, wenn Sie die Texte ändern. Achten Sie außerdem darauf wo diese Übersetzungstexte verwendet werden, manche werden an mehr als 5 Orten eingesetzt. Sie werden bei Ihren derzeitigen Einstellungen bei jeder Änderung der .mo den Webserver neustarten müssen, damit diese Änderungen auf den Seiten des Ticketsystems sichtbar werden. Gettext cached die Übersetzungen nämlich gerne.
