I receive the following message when I enter a new ticket and click "Create Ticket" (there is about a 20 second or more pause) and then:

Warning: mail() : Unable to send message to SMTP server. 5.7.1 Command not allowed

in /www/htdocs/support/include/pear/Mail/mail.php on line 153The strange part is that the email IS sent.  Also, when I use the "Test Outgoing Email" option in the admin panel, the test completes without a hitch.I checked that the Exchange server (2010) will allow anonymous relay from 192.168.200.200 (I can telnet from the the web server to the Exchange server anonymously) and everything seems OK but I continue to get a much longer delay when I  create a ticket and the error appears at the top of the page.Ideas?

You

Sorry. I had several things going on at once and pushed Publish too quickly.....osTicket Version     v1.8.1Server Software     ApachePHP Version     5.3.14MySQL Version     5.1.50PHP Extensions         gdlib     Used for image manipulation and PDF printing    imap     Used for email fetching    xml     XML API    xml-dom     Used for HTML email processing    json     Improves performance creating and processing JSON    gettext     Improves performance for non US-English configurations    mbstring     Highly recommended for non western european language contentDatabase UsageDatabase Space Used     0.41 MiBDatabase Space for Attachments     0.04 MiBDoesn't make any difference whether I use PHP Mail or SMTP, both fail on the Create Ticket with exactly the same error.  The thing that throws me is that the test is OK but the actual sending *seems* to fail.

My first piece of advice would be to upgrade.  1.8.1 is pretty old at this point.  There have been several bug fix updates released since that, and several new versions of the 1.9 tree (and 1.9.4 is right around the corner).

OK.  I'll give it a whirl but I think this has been the stumbling block on getting this going for quite a while. If I remember correctly, the upgrade was rather painless so I'll let you know if it makes a difference.

I have an older article on my web site that you might find helpful.  The versions are not 100% matching, but the general procedure is the same.http://www.tmib.net/upgrading-osticket-1812-current-19rc

OK!  That did it.  It seems to be working OK now (although I got a couple of timeout/refresh pop ups while waiting for the email to be sent).  Thanks.  I would have tried a newer version eventually but thanks for the push.

Glad I could help. :)  Should I close this thread and mark it resolved?
