So, to summarize, I am no longer getting an error, it is now just doing nothing

You need to setup a cron job. See http://osticket.com/wiki/POP3/IMAP_Settings(http://osticket.com/wiki/POP3/IMAP_Settings)

It seems the majority of questions here have had to do with POP/IMAP, but little has been said about SMTP for sending of emails. I picked up this info from Gmail:

"In order to prevent spam, Gmail refuses mail when the sending IP address does not match the sending domain. To send mail from your server to Gmail, we suggest using the SMTP relay provided by your ISP. Please note that we are unable to whitelist IP addresses or otherwise make exceptions at this time."

Hope this helps.

Any updates yet...

All you have to do is set your pop3 username and password.

Make sure that you setup your smtp settings at non-authenticated using your local ISP's smtp gateway

That seems to have worked well for me. Its not SSL secure for SMTP but it helps.

SMTP Issues

I'm not succeeding at getting SMTP working with gmail. I've got IMAP access set-up, but when I try to set-up SMTP I get an error:

On port 465 I get:

Failed to connect to smtp.gmail.com

While on port 587 I get:

authentication failure [SMTP: SMTP server does not support authentication (code: 250, response: mx.google.com at your service,

Anybody know what this means? I don't have mcrypt installed and I'm wondering if that is an issue.

Ah, think I solved it. I can use port 465 but I need to set the host as: "ssl://smtp.gmail.com"
