We have the standard 'Open', 'Answered', 'My Tickets', 'Resolved' and when necessary 'Overdue'.We have multiple ticket types, would it be possible to create a new tab after 'Open' and put these tickets (defined by their Ticket Number with a different 3 digit prefix) into this tab?

This will be possible with 1.11

The custom ticket queues feature is forth coming which will allow you to do this (It may be 1.11).  Currently I believe that you can get the same results by using Advanced Search and picking the status that you want.
