Can cron functionality (fetching email and creating ticket) made available to onclick of a button ?

Hai,Normally Os Ticket uses cron functionality for fetching the emails from the mail server and creating the new tickets. My requirement is I would like to create a button named "Fetch Mail" , so that on clicking this button the system should performs the tasks done by the cron. (ie, Fetching mails and creating ticket). If any user sends an email to an agent the agent can immediately click on "Fetch Mail" button so that he/she will get the ticket under "Open". I think this is not a good idea. If multiple cron calls will be executed at the same time the system could generate duplicate tickets..

It would definitely need to include a "lock" file or something so ensure that only one could be executed at a time.
