Hi,I am new to osTicket and I am having problems and am confused with email configurations.  I have read the WIKI on email set up and multiple discussion here and they were no help to me.    My Requirements:1. When a new ticket is opened, transferred, or closed I would like everyone in my department to receive an email alert letting them know.2. When a user opens a ticket he/she receives a confirmation of this3. Alert the user when their ticket has been updated/resolved/closed.If I'm reading correct, my requirements are already capable within osticket out of the box, so I really just need help with the email configs. I am using v1.9 on a Rackspace virtual server, LAMP stack. Thanks Amber J :)

Amber,It would be helpful if you'd use a current version of osTicket.  It's now up to 1.9.5.1, I believe.Yes, it can do this "out of the box".You say you "need help with the email configs". Can you be more specific on what part you need help with?Jack

Hi JackThanks for the response. I am using the latest version of the software. The WIKI is not exactly clear from a "step-by-step" point of view, so I was looking for a comprehensive tutorial/links/help on here, on "how to get email alerts working".I was able to add "alerts@mydomain.com" Which I would like to be the email address that alerts are sent from.  Just now clear on how to do this.  Under "Email" in the Staff Control Panel - Should I be focused on only: Sending Email via SMTP ?

Also - I can't get "Test Outgoing Email" to work (Which I suspect is my issue)

Amber,First, you said you're on 1.9. That is not the latest version.Second, you're not telling us your problem with email setup. How far did you get, and what errors (or problems) are you having?  Tell us what you've done, and then maybe we can help.  In fact, please start here:Please read before requesting assistanceJack

Jack,How about relax?  I hope your attitude isn't the norm around here, because it gives me a bad impression of this community.  1. Yes, I am on v1.9.5.1 stable2. No, I still can't get email to work3. No the WIKI/other threads on the board did not help meQuestions1. In /scp/emails.php I added 1 email address: support@mydomain.com. When I click on that email address I'm not sure how to configure/setup my settings on this page. 2. Is this the only area that needs to be modified, to make email alerts work?3. The best method to check to see if these setting are correct is, the "Diagnostic" link?Sorry we got off on the wrong foot.  Its just that i'm a female and tech message boards, in general, are just crowed with ego driven men.  ThanksAmber

Jack,

How about relax?  I hope your attitude isn't the norm around here, because it gives me a bad impression of this community.... Sorry we got off on the wrong foot.  Its just that i'm a female and tech message boards, in general, are just crowed with ego driven men.

Thanks

Amber

Amber,I'm going backward here, like men sometimes do. ;)First, I wouldn't say you got off on the wrong foot. This is pretty normal on this forum.Second, I am relaxed. You really don't understand my attitude, and it really shouldn't be relevant--you need help, and I'm trying to help. That's what really matters, rigjht?  You will find that a lot of tech people are direct, and it's tempting to interpret that as being rude or whatever. It's just...direct (ego has nothing to do with it--it's more about efficiency).  I don't take things personally, and anyone does, it's not productive. Now I've spent time that could have been spent assisting, but it was necessary. ;)   1. Yes, I am on v1.9.5.1 stable 2. No, I still can't get email to work 3. No the WIKI/other threads on the board did not help me Questions 1. In /scp/emails.php I added 1 email address: support@mydomain.com. When I click on that email address I'm not sure how to configure/setup my settings on this page.  2. Is this the only area that needs to be modified, to make email alerts work? 3. The best method to check to see if these setting are correct is, the "Diagnostic" link? This is much more helpful. You put support@mydomain.com for the email address in /scp/emails.php.  It may seem like a dumb question, but believe me, I have to ask: Does this account already exist?  (We've had users who thought all the had to do was put an email address in, and it would be created for them). Can you access this account via a mail client like Outlook or Thunderbird?  If so, those settings need to be used for "fetching" and "sending" mail for that account.  If it's a Gmail-hosted account, IMAP (or POP) access has to be enabled in the account's "settings".  Once that's done, you can get the setup info from Gmail's online help. Then you need to decide how to schedule the email fetching. Using auto-cron will allow you to test, but it's not a good long term solution, in my opinion. But we need to know about your system in order to tell you how to schedule it.  That's why we ask those questions in the "Please read before requesting assistance" topic.  I have to say, it's frustrating to try and help without this information.Hope that helps move you forward a little bit. Once we know about your system and setup, maybe we can assist more.Jack
