Mail Fetcher - emails

It happened very rarely but lately, it happens quite often.

I open my mail mailbox and there are tons of mail fetcher emails. One for each CRON execution.

Some spam mail in the inbox folder will, for some unknown reason to me, prevent mail fetcher to fetch the email. I need to login to email account and delete the troubled mail from Fetch Folder and the error is gone.

Can this be avoided anyhow? It is starting to become quite annoying.

If you use Gmail then other people have suggested to change the post-fetch actions to Do Nothing and it resolves the error. If you don't use Gmail then whatever spam messages you are getting are malformed or something and cannot be processed by the system for some reason or another. Which requires manual intervention to remove said mail.

If it's really annoying you that bad then in the meantime simply create a rule to move said messages from the inbox into a separate folder so they aren't fetched by the system.

How to create a rule if it's always another email that gets stuck?

OsTicket filter should be:
If email can not be fetched, move to another inbox folder and notify only once, rather than flooding inbox with hundreds of mail fetcher emails.

My apologies by your OP I interpreted it as the spam being common. If it’s different every time then yea that wouldn’t help.

It’s not that simple; I wish it were. There are other cases to think about so blindly moving is not good.

If that’s the error then from my experience the mail definitely could not be fetched properly so the system couldn’t parse it and get a user from it.

I dont think that you can do this via filters.
Since you've mentioned cron, is your mailserver also *nix?
If so then you could probably write a script that checks how old a file is in the mail queue.
example: postfix uses something like /var/spool/postfix/
If it is over X amount of time old, copy it to a sub folder (or delete it).

My email server is Zimbra. I will check for rules options there. But to my logic it is OsT that should handle this in a proper way and not flooding the inbox with fetch error emails on every run.

Well it’s letting you know something is wrong; it’s just doing its job. Maybe in v2.0 we can have a throttle or something that will only send an alert once per day or something. Who knows, we’ll have to see after v2.0 is released.
