How to clear ost_session.idb

Hi',
I'm trying to clear my old sessions from ost_session.idb via DELETE FROM ost_session WHERE session_expire < 'YYYY-MM-DD'; command but this doesn't work, what is the alternative command and/or action for this?
These session logs are really filling up my linux filesystem disk

Simply delete the needed records via DELETE query in the database.

Thanks for the reply,
when i try to delete records I'm always then getting this error:
ERROR 1205 (HY000): Lock wait timeout exceeded; try restarting transaction

any idea?

Then that either means the db is too busy or has too many records. You can limit the deletion to 100 or so records at a time to see if that improves. If not then you will need to stop the helpdesk by turning it offline and disabling email fetching. Then once the server calms down and everyone is off the system retry the deletion query. Once data is deleted you can re-enable the helpdesk and email fetching.

You should really setup a cron job/scheduled task so that expired sessions are auto-purged by the system; frequently without human interaction. Look at this guide to setup a cron job/scheduled task:
