SMTP Email

Hello guys and gals, I just setup osTicket to use for my small business and was wondering how do I change from the default PHP mail function to using SMTP? I have tried to modify the Outgoing (SMTP) settings but only see an option for basic authentication(legacy) which isn't working with my SMTP configuration. I have v1.18.1 (0375576) installed. Please let me know if there is any other information I need to provide to help solve this request. Thanks!

osTicket's SMTP can support no authentication (typically used with relays), Basic Authentication, and Modern Authentication (OAuth2). To add Modern Authentication support you must install and enable the OAuth2 plugin:

Thanks for the quick response. I downloaded and enabled the OAuth2 plugin but it seems that my email provider, protonmail, doesn't support this standard or I couldn't find any information on the information needed to fill in the idP config. Does the default PHP mail function work? Because I can't send/receive any emails with this option selected.

Protonmail should have SMTP instructions. Please reach out to them or review their documentation for steps on how to configure SMTP. I did a very quick google search and this was the first result:

Seems like you just need to generate a token and use Basic Authentication in osTicket. The Username is the email address and the Password is the token you generate it appears.

I already went through the process outlined in those instructions as I use Protonmail SMTP with other business applications but for some reason I'm receiving a "5.7.8 Error:...." when entering token configuration

Then maybe you are using wrong host information or maybe SMTP is disabled in protonmail or if you are using shared host then potentially External SMTP is disabled. Contact your hosting provider/server admin and protonmail for further assistance.

It could also be an issue where it doesn't accept LOGIN authentication; only PLAIN. If that's the case then you can try this:

Just keep in mind you would have to reapply this every time you upgrade osTicket. In this scenario the permanent fix is to have Protonmail allow LOGIN authentication for your account.

Modifying the class.mail.php file solved the issue and a test email was sent and received successfully. Thank you for your help!!

Then I highly recommend that you reach out to protonmail to see if they can enable LOGIN auth so you can avoid further issues in the future.
