I am not sure what has changed in the last couple of days but our DB cpu usage has gone through the roof and has made the system very slow and sluggish. Any ideas on how to remedy this issue?

Enable your MariaDB slow query logs and see what queries are taking a long time or a lot of resources.

As soon as I try and look at closed tickets it pukes. If I stay in open tickets or just look at closed today it is fine.
Right, which means that particular queue's query is taking a long time to execute.
