cron hanging

Im having an issue with the cron process hanging up indefinitely and consuming cpu resources. Im running OST in docker. I access the container and tail the php log but there is no evident useful info being logged. I end up killing the stuck process and things seem to go back to normal, but it keeps recurring.

How do I trouble shoot this?

Maybe try dumping the contents of each cron run to a file? Maybe it's spitting out a fatal error somewhere?

Also, please post a screenshot of Admin Panel > Dashboard > Information.

Something like:

5\* * * * * /path/to/php /path/to/osTicket/api/cron.php > /path/to/file.txt

its not outputting anything. is there a way to make it more verbose?

What does the cron script do? If I watch it with top, I see sometimes it completes quick, but sometimes the process hangs around for all of the 5 minutes, and sometimes more. This doesnt correlate to when it gets stuck and pins the cpu though. Does it matter if the previous cron is still running when the next 5m one launches?

You should space the cron out to where one executes after the previous finishes. There really isn’t a way to make it more verbose. Have you checked your system logs to see if there are any related errors? Have you tried saving changes on the email to see if it’s having connection issues?
