update starting a new installation

Hello! how are you?
Has anyone tried to update osticket starting by installing php 8 and the latest version of the platform on the server, and then copying the setup files from the old version to the new version? Also, then dump into the new database what is from the old version DB..

I have version 1.14.1 with php 7.3.7 and I must update to 1.17.x with php 8

So you setup a new server just for the upgrade or you want to upgrade osTicket on the same server?

i want tu upgrade osticket on the same server.
But now i have a new problem. My server use IIS and I read php 8.x is not installable here?

PHP 8.0-8.1 is available for IIS you just have to manually install it now (thanks microsoft).

So if you want to upgrade on the same server you need to:

Turn the helpdesk Offline: Admin Panel > Settings > System > Helpdesk Status
Disable email fetching (make sure both checkboxes are disabled): Admin Panel > Emails > Settings > Email Fetching
Take a full backup of the database (mysqldump command is best)
Take a full backup of the site files
Upgrade PHP and enable all the extensions that are enabled for your current installed version of PHP (you can run php -m from command line to see the currently enabled extensions)
Replace any of the current osTicket plugin files with new builds from our website (very important you do this first)
Copy/Replace the current site files with the new files from our website
Login to the helpdesk
Run the upgrader

Thanks for this important information! I had seen versions greater than 8 on the PHP For Windows site, but then I read something on this forum (which I clearly misunderstood) that these versions could not be used on Windows. Thank you
And also thanks for the step by step on how to update my osticket. Some of that I had already read. It's the best way to do it right?
