Embed video attachment in Knowledgebase article ?

I'm trying to make better use of the Knowledge base and transfer some staff FAQ's from word documents and video files however one thing I can't seem to do is to embed attached video files in a Knowledgebase article - is this even possible ?

In this instance I am attaching a .mov (probably h264 encoded) video as a file attachment to a knowledgebase article - that works fine, although clicking on the attachment of course just provides a download link to download it to the users computer rather than play it.

So I'd like to embed the attached video file as a playable video within the same knowledgebase article - but I can't find any way to do it. The video embed button only works for Youtube/Vimeo (and presumably just embeds Youtube and Vimeo's own native HTML5 players) and trying to link directly to the attachment only gives you an ugly link which downloads the file same as clicking on the attachment directly.

Is there any way to embed a video attached directly to a knowledgebase article within the knowledgebase article body with an HTML5 player ?

I'm guessing not, but I just wanted to check. Seems like a missed opportunity if it's not possible - not everyone wants to host their videos on Youtube to embed them in a knowledgebase article...

You will need to directly link to a video inside the FAQ content (inline) or stick with downloading to view. We don't display videos in browser, only images (for security reasons).

When you say "directly link to a video inside the FAQ content" are you suggesting to just paste a direct link to the attachment in the body ? If so, as mentioned I've already tried that and it doesn't provide any benefit over simply leaving it visible as an attachment which has a link in the sidebar anyway. It still just gives the user a file download prompt.

I'm not sure what "security reasons" you're implying when it would be a link to an attachment uploaded by the creator of the knowledgebase article - who has to be an agent or admin to have the ability to upload it in the first place. EG the file is "trusted content", certainly more trusted than linking to a random video on the internet somewhere.

Pity this can't be done in a nice way. I started to migrate some of our FAQ's across to knowledge base articles but not being able to handle tutorial videos in a clean way is a deal breaker and uploading them to a public service like Youtube isn't going to happen.

As far as I can see the video embed function in the editor only works for Youtube or Vimeo not locally hosted files... unless there is a way to embed it using some custom html ?

Go here and scroll to "Embedded Domain Whitelist" setting:

You can configure allowed host names if your video is not hosted publicly.

All you need to do is update the Embedded Domain Whitelist setting with your desired provider(s) and then you’ll be able to embed their videos in anything in the system.
