Hi,
I am currently running OSTicket on a CentOS 8 server. As you may know, its EOL is now 12/31/21 therefore, I have to migrate my current OSTicket installation to another distro.

Which Linux distribution will you recommend? I was thinking either Debian 11 Stable (when released) or Ubuntu LTS.

Please advise

It's a PHP application, so it's OS independent and would be compatible with anything that can run a web server with PHP. Which OS to upgrade to sounds like a decision for your IT manager

CentOS 7 will be supported until 2024 if that helps.

Personally, I've been using Debian for a really long time.

CentOS was originally like Ubuntu a Debian fork.

I personally consider Ubuntu more of a "desktop" or "workstation" OS, and Debian and CentOS as more of a Server OS.
But these are just my biases/opinions. You should really take some time and do a little research and come to your own opinions. 🙂

ntozier Could have sworn CentOS was RPM based. 😆 Its more of a preference than anything else. Like Phaelax said, as long as you use a supported PHP version with your version, Apache ( Nginx is not officially supported, but you can get it working with some modifications), and SQL then it can pretty much run on almost any version of linux you want. I tinkered with it on CentOS, uBuntu LTS, Debian. If you feel like getting froggy, you can even get uBuntu working on a Raspberry Pi and put it on that. I thought about doing that at one point for a testing system.

Do you have any issues pulling up 'Closed tickets'? I migrated to Debian 11. Everything works fine except when I tried to view closed tickets. It takes up to 30 seconds. The same database takes less than 2 seconds on Centos8. Same server specifications.

What version of Debian do you use?

Thank you so much for your responses. ntozier, I leaning towards Debian. I also think Ubuntu is more of a desktop distro.

I will wait until Debian 11 stable is released to migrate my OSTicket.

Opening my closed tickets list is slow (takes 9s on my larger production site).
We have about 25k closed tickets.
