Multiple instances of OSTicker

We have been using OSTicket as our IT Helpdesk for about 3 months now, really happy. Another department who are customer facing have asked for my assistance in setting up there own Helpdesk. We are keen to keep there data separate from ours, would any recommend one of the following setups over the other?

Run a separate IIS virtual directory in the same web host as our current helpdesk, using the same MySQL instance, but different database (is this even possible with OSTicket?)
Create a new web host for the other solution. separate SQL etc....

I have the resource available to do another host, its just going to require a bit of work redoing the install. Has anyone been in a similar situation themselves and can advise?

yes, it's very common, once you set up your virtual directory, then you just copy install files and start a fresh install of your second OSTicket like if it was a new server.

its very common to have multiple sites on one server. As Ramrajone said, its actually easy since you create a new Virtual Directory in IIS. There are two caveats I would add depending on what the other department wants to do.

They may want their ticketing system to be internet accessible and your current one might not be. If you enable access from the internet to their ticketing system, then yours is also internet accessible in a fashion even though the response headers are going to serve their ticket system. Security and all comes more into play then.

The 2nd is depending on how much the systems are used, your disk space will be consumed faster since there are two database files using space rather than one. This one really isn't such a big deal, but just something to watch out for.

Thank you both. Where would I stand with email checking. Currently we are using cron.php which is ran via a scheduled task (well actually I have written a service in C# but its essentially the same thing) to collect from an exchange mailbox. The second instance on the same server would also require email checking. Would that work? Obviously I want to maintain separation so that the differently addressed emails go to the different instances.

as long as you have cron.php set up correctly, the osTicket will take care reset, based on the support email incoming emails will end up in the correct database.
