Upgrading PHP on live site?

I'd like to upgrade my PHP installation to the latest supported (by osticket) version. Right now I'm at 5.6. Is this possible? If so do I just need to place the newer version somewhere on the server and change a config file of some sort in the osTicket directory? I'm running it on Windows 7 using IIS and MySQL.

We install PHP in a separate folder. Then change the handler mapping in IIS to the new version. Then restart the IIS service. Then test the site.

After changing the Handler Mapping in IIS I'm getting an HTTP 500 ERROR when trying to browse to the site. I created a phpinfo.php file in the root of the site and viewing that works fine and correctly displays the PHP version (7.3.9). Any tips on where to look next?

Got it working. Forgot the default PHP files don't include a php.ini. Once I renamed php.ini-production to php.ini and then walked through the file comparing it to the v5.6 php.ini file and making changes where appropriate I was able to restart the esite in IIS and it came up and let me log in.
