How to fetch the new emails only?

I've succeeded to set up the osticket as well as the cron job to fetch gmails by POP/IMAP polling. But it converts all my old emails to new tickets. I have thousands of old emails and I quickly switched the function off once I saw hundreds of new tickets after a while. How can I set it to fetch the new incoming emails only? Any help would be much appreciated!!!

I am using the latest 1.7version and POP polling for gmail.

In gmail setting only enable POP/IMAP for new (future) emails. Alternatively you can archive old emails before enabling mail fetch again.
