The issue we had was: Spam email reached our support@ which opened a ticket.. the autorespond sent an email to that spam and triggered a bounce to our support@ that opened another ticket and so on and so on for a whole weekend which made our osticket system end up with over 18000 new tickets open on Monday. Wasn't great :/
Is there anyway this can be stopped? Maybe a limit that can be tweaked or a configuration setting somewhere that I overlooked?

I believe that the following should do the trick:
Login as an admin.
navigate to Admin panel -> Settings
Scroll down to Ticket Options & Settings
set Maximum Open Tickets: to something reasonable for your clients. (We use 5)

We have that option set to 200 but we still had 18000 new opened tickets. I'm not sure how that works.
We had to empty the current and the new folders in the support@ maillbox on the server to stop the loop.
Could anybody help on this?
Or explain what the Maximum Open Tickets limit is about?
