Frequent Error 500

I have inherrited an install of osticket.

It is running osticket 1.6 with php version 5.3.2-1, on ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS

Everything has been running fine since we took over the system.

In the last 2-3 weeks we have started seeing a more and more frequent problem of getting error 500 pages.

It will take 2-3 refreshes and the page will then load and work without issue. If you leave the page open and come back to it later it will get error 500 pages again. Refreshing once again resolves the issue.

Is this a problem that has been seen before?

If not, what logs should I be looking at to get a clue as to what is going on?

I would check your php logs and apache logs. Your php.ini will tell you where your php logs to (it may need to be turned on for diagnosing the problem). Your php.ini's location can also vary my Debian box has it in /etc/php5/apache5.

Depending on how you have Apache configured (and if your using vhosts) chances are where logs are being store will be in /etc/apache2/sites/available/NAMEOFSITE.

Do you know if anyone modified the code in the last little while? (or installed new software to the server)
