pop email setting error

Tow questions:

1. I can't set the pop email successfuly in "POP3 Setting" (Admin panel>emails>POP3 Setting), when i enable the POP3 and submit my email info, an error accour "IMAP doesn't exist. PHP must be compiled with IMAP enabled." what is it about?

2. What is the API (Admin >Setting >API) ? What's the function of it ? it there any problem when i leave them blank? is an essential part?

Any idea ? Appreciate for someone help to fix it.

1. As far as I know your PHP needs IMAP support for the POP3 to work. What OS, web server, etc are you running?
