How do we turn off auto-sending of "A collaborator just logged a message..." emails?

We don't require this feature and have received a few complaints from respective recipients about our 'annoying' emails.

Could you point me in the direction of a system parameter setting or advise which code we would need to modify?

You can turn off the notices in Admin Panel > Settings > Autoresponder  by unchecking Participants: Send new activity notice
