Thank you page variable %{ticket.number} not working

We upgraded to 1.8.1.2 and now on our customer ticket creation thank you page %{ticket.number} variable no longer works. It returns XXXXXX A support ticket request XXXXXX has been created and a representative will be getting The variable works fine on the email messages and the ticket is created with no issue.Any help would be appreciated.
