Mods / Customizations Update made easier?

I read through the release notes of 1.8 and from my understanding it will be easier to update the version of OS ticket and carry over any mods and customization. Can anyone explain how this is done? I'm afraid when upgrading from 1.8 to 1.8.1 I will loose all the changes that were made. Thank you!

Well you could create your own fork of osTicket on git hub and use it to store your changes.You could move your mods to plugins.If you don't do one of those things you will lose the changes that you made at the source level.
