Can't log in after upgrade from v1.6 RC3 to v1.8.1

I copied the files and now I can't log in with my admin user. The error message that I'm getting seems to be from class.auth.php. From what I can see the password on my database is just a plain md5sum of it, without salt or anything.I can't see anything on the logs. Does the password needs to be in a special way, or do I need to do something?... From what I can see in class.staff.php it first checks new method and if it is not valid then it fallback to MD5 and rehash, I set a die() call just before that and it seems that never reaches there.The error message that I'm getting (Forgot your login info? Contact Admin.) comes from class.auth.php and not from class.staff.php... If there a way to force the upgrade or manipulate the database to log in?

Clear your cache. (alt+f5) 90% of the auth problems that people have reported are cleared up by that.

Hello ntozier thank for your reply.It's not the cache, I have already cleared it multiple times. I have also used a different browser and tried inside the privacy mode. I'm very sure that cache is not the problem.I have admin_email in ost_config set to the same email in ost_staff, belonging to the user that I'm trying to use with has '1' in isadmin, isvisible, isactive. The password for that user is just md5'ed.

You could update your password in the database by running a mysql query like:update ost_staff set passwd = md5('yournewpassword') where username='yourusername';

@[deleted],Just did, still the same... Nothing in the logs, I don't know how to debug this. I get: "Forgot your login info? Contact Admin." and nothing else :(

If I set a wrong value for the database on /ostconfig.php I get a blank page with the following: Fatal error: Call to a member function getEmail() on a non-object in

/var/www/old-osticket/upload/include/class.mailer.php on line 113(and same error message on apache's logs), not sure if this has something to do or it is because the upgrade was not done yet and valid database is expected...

Make sure that your doing it to the right database, because I just did the same thing on my own 1.8.1-rc1 installation just to make sure that it still worked before posting and it works fine for me.

I have restored the original database from the old system couple of times already... Should I disable or remove the other users?Not sure what else I can do to trace this... For me it looks like class.staff.php is not used...

I have same issueThere is no way to upgrade from 1.6-rc3 to 1.7.1 or 1.8.0.2 If I understand correctly, after upgrade (copying files) I should see page but it does not appear. I'm not able also to login with any of my users. I'm getting Authentication Required. I have done also new clean installation with clean DB and it works. If I change config of new installation to old db, it does not work. If I change upgraded osticket config to new DB then it works.Looks like there is some difference in DB 1.6-rc3 - 1.7.1

@[deleted]0jt3k: If you are running 1.6-rc3 you should upgrade to 1.6ST first.

@ntozier I didn't read anything about upgrade to 1.6ST first, all the documentation seems to suggest that it is possible "Only previous versions from version 1.6 RC1 can be upgraded to the current version." outdated?Also the repository for 1.6 seems to be gone :( only 1.7 and 1.8, (https://github.com/osTicket) will it be possible to go from 1.6-rc3 to 1.7.1-rc1 and from there to 1.8.1?

There never was a repo for 1.6. I have made 1.6ST available on my web page for people.http://tmib.net/files/OST_1.6.zipI would upgrade to 1.6ST first, then try upgrading to 1.7.x or 1.8.x.

@[deleted] this is the proper way! it's shame that on osticket website they do not tell what is the proper way

I think that the problem was that they no longer had pre 1.6ST versions to ensure that the upgrader would work properly (not confirmed). But since people shouldn't be running DPR's or RC's on production machines in the first place its probably not something that they worried about.Regardless I'm glad that you guys got things all sorted. I am going to close this thread, but if you get stuck again please feel free to post again. :)
