Error Upgrading

I am upgrading from 1.6 to the latest stable release of 1.8.I receive the following error when upgrading the database after uploading all the files from the upload folder.Unknown column 'file_name' in 'field list'I checked that table after getting the error and the field is definitely not there. Are the database upgrades running out of order?

Are you running 1.6ST? If your running a version prior to that you should upgrade to 1.6ST first. (Such as is you were running an DPR or RC release of 1.6).You also might try upgrading to 1.7 first.If you can provide an actual php error I would post on github.
