Asok unless you tell it to use the same database and use the same MySQL username/password it couldn't possibly over write the old DB.
You can either:
1. use the same credentials and change the prefix. (from ost_ to whatever you want_)
2. create a new DB. And then either use the same username/password or create a new username/password.
I recommend that you at utilize a different DB and account.
