1. How are you trying to close the ticket? (With the action bar? or with the "Close on Reply" check box?)
I have tried both ways. When I try the "close on Reply" the reply gets put in but the ticket does not close
2. Have you modified the distribution in anyway from stock (configuration doesn't count)

Is that the "Default Department:" under Admin Panel -> Settings?

simons account is under the "Support"
yes that is the default department.
ticket is assigned to "Support" we actually only have one department.
