Deprecated error!

Hi,

Until yesterday, my osticket worked fine, but now I got this error:

Deprecated: Assigning the return value of new by reference is deprecated in E:\HostingSpaces\Hooghe\support.web-app.be\wwwroot\ticket\include\pear\Mail\smtp.php on line 322

Warning: mail(): Failed to connect to mailserver at "localhost" port 25, verify your "SMTP" and "smtp_port" setting in php.ini or use ini_set() in E:\HostingSpaces\Hooghe\support.web-app.be\wwwroot\ticket\include\pear\Mail\mail.php on line 128

Fatal Error: Contact system adminstrator.

Dous anyone have an idea how to fix this?

Are you hosting this on a local server or through a hosting company? If it's through a hosting company, have the upgraded PHP? The 'Deprecated' line is likely just a warning and not necessarily the problem if I remember correctly.

The 'Failed to connect to mailserver..' message seems to be a more likely culprit. Any chance the SMTP server has shut itself down, which would prevent osticket from connecting to it?

Just tossing out a couple of ideas hoping they might help - good luck.

PHP version

They updated PHP from 5.2 to 5.3, isn't osticket compatible with PHP 5.3?

The sytem on which I'm running osticket is running PHP 5.3.5 and it's been doing fine. 'error' logs have similar 'deprecated' warnings as you have above but it doesn't keep it from working. The deprecated warnings are there to let people know that feature is going away in a future release so there's plenty of warning for developers to adjust their coding.

Mathman is correct. These are not errors, they are warnings.

I presume that it will be addressed in a future release.
