Hi Guys,

I have setup osTicket but having a problem sending emails to users posting a ticket.

I keep getting a error around the username and password section:

"Unable to login. Check SMTP settings."

And the SMTP section reports:

"authentication failure "

Now I have checked the username and password on the account and they are correct, I created the account specifically for this service.

for the SMTP authentication the settings are correct and have tried both port 25 & 587, neither work.

As well as this I keep getting a log file message:

"mcrypt missing"

Now I have been able to find this file, but unsure of the location of this file, can't find any posts stating the location, the file is available, it is in two locations, which I assume they are incorrect.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Parallels\Plesk\Additional\PHP\extensions

C:\Program Files (x86)\Parallels\Plesk\Additional\PleskPHP5\ext

But reading through other posts on this, it should still work, but not encrypt the password data?

Can anyone provide any further information on this please?

To start with you haven't told us what your mail server is. I won't presume that its Exchange just because your webserver is. That piece of information would be helpful. Also are you running a domain? And which version of the mail server?

To start with lets create a file in your webtree (where you can find it with a browser called pinfo.php. Edit it and put this in:

<?php phpinfo(); ?>

Save the file and pull it up in a webbroswer. If you scroll down you should see

"Loaded Configuration File" which will tell you which of your multiple php.ini's are being loaded.

If you scroll further down you should see the mycrpt section. If you do not see the mcrypt section then it's not turned on.

On Windows you can enable it by editting the php.ini and locating:

;extension=php_mcrypt.dll

change to:

extension=php_mcrypt.dll

(ie. remove ; )

You should also make sure that the php_mcrypt.dll is in your /ext directory. If it isn't you will have to get the one that should have been distributed with the version of PHP that you are running.

Sorry I should have said I am using mail server on a '1and1' mail account, I am not using localhost, I am using a domain email account.

I have been able to view now the details of the PHP.ini file and have modified the mcrypt now, so that is now enabled. I note however, that the smtp is set to look for localhost:

sendmail_from @adminemail@

sendmail_path no value

serialize_precision 100

short_open_tag On

SMTP localhost

smtp_port 25

I have updated the SMTP details in 'email mail settings' and have added the port as 587 as we use authenticated, but get the error message:

SMTP setttings error: authentication failure

I assumed entering these values would update the php.ini file with relevant info?

The email account works as I have sent test emails to-from the account

The domain is on a differeent server.

Please check the php error log to see if there is more to that error then you can see in the application.

Amazing...that link was the solution ...thanks guys

Just to advise anyone else with this issue, this alteration is to be made in the smtp.php file of osTicket, not in the PHP installation files folder on your server
