We use Nagios, Cacti, and OSTicket to monitor and maintain our network. I'm not sure if this is so much of a mod but I would be glad to provide my source code for this. Check out the picture below to see more.
The links on the right open up a pop up of the selected menu item in a jquery window. It's a really nice way to keep close tabs on things.
Also, under quick stats it tells you details about how many tickets you have open and what priority they are.
