Issues sending SMTP to Google Apps

This appears to be an ongoing issue with osTicket/Google Apps users. I've searched and found many solutions on this forum but have had little success. The most recent solution that I found, was (http://osticket.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2862)

When attempting to configure osTicket to send through Gmail SMTP, we receive the below error. Mail is however successfully being retrieved through SSL POP.

Our current mail settings are:

smtp.gmail.com

587

Authentication: NO

We have tried ssl://smtp.gmail.com on both port 587 and 465 but we receive the below error:

Failed to connect to ssl://smtp.gmail.com

Our environment is:

Windows 2003

PHP Version 4.4.7

MySQL

I'm almost wondering if we need to install something on our server to fix this.

I've been having no problems with Google Hosted Apps and OSTicket. I use an offsite Linux host (A Small Orange), and I've had an issue where they once upgraded their system and it stopped POP mail receiving. They unblocked the port, and then it seemed to be working again.

I do notice one strange thing about your post:

smtp.gmail.com

Authentication: NO

Authentication should be set to Yes.

A_frayn, thanks for your post. I've tried what you suggested however, I receive the following error stating that the system does not support authentication.

authentication failure [SMTP: SMTP server does not support authentication (code: 250, response: mx.google.com at your service,

Are you using the same settings as I am, but with authentication?

Sorry but could you post the pic to another site such as imgur? The admins seem to be taking quite a long time to approve the attachment for me to see it.
