Invalid path message

I am testing our newly implemented system and we get an error message "invalid path". This shows up when a person creates a ticket on the web then clicks the link that is sent to them in a email to view the status of their ticket. They can see the details fine on that screen but when they click the link to view the actual ticket and any updates the system responds with "invalid path"

** the person creating the ticket is not a user in the system **

Anyone have any ideas as to what is causing this and what we need to modify?

To troubleshoot this beyond hypothetically we would need the actual error message with paths. Other information that might be helpful is weburl your using, server OS, and webserver.

What version of OST are you running?

Has it been modified or is it a stock install?
