Outgoing Email (Noticfications, etc.)

I have been trying to figure this out for some time and need some help.

We are running Plesk 10 (Windows) and have installed osticket into one of our hosted domains. I have been able to set everything up successfully except outgoing mail. The problem is, I cannot find anywhere in the web interface to set the outgoing email settings. I have also considered looking to the php.ini file, but there isn't one in the domain's osticket installer folder (or sub folders).

We use Gmail so I know that I need to use the appropriate port information but there just doesn't seem to be any place to enter it.

Sending: Don't know

Fetching/Receiving: POP

PHP version: Don't know how to check

Operating System: Windows 2008 Server R2

I assume that you're talking about in osTicket... go to:

Admin Panel > Emails > either Add New Email or click on your existing email address

Gmail settings can be found at the (Gmail help center) but for your quick reference the incoming settings we use are as follows:

Host: pop.gmail.com

Port: 995

Protocol: POP

Encryption: SSL

The outgoing settings we use are:

SMTP Host: smtp.gmail.com

SMTP Port: 587

PHP version: Don't know how to check
Operating System: Windows 2008 Server R2

To get PHP information I generally create a page within any directory, for example I may call it myphp.php or php_info.php and paste the code below:

<?php phpinfo(); ?>

This will give you all the PHP version and install information you need

I really appreciate your reply. Unfortunately, going to Admin Panel > Emails > (either add new email or click on an existing email address) doesn't help because there is absolutely no place to enter SMTP information when I do this. There is only a place to enter POP information for retrieving the emails.

If I could add a screenshot I would but not sure how. Very strange issue.

That screen should look something like (see attachment).

If it does not look like that then you might try re-uploading

support/include/staff/email.inc.php

Have you made any changes to that file? Can you post a screen shot of what you do see?

For some reason the picture in your post says attachment pending approval so I can't see it or download it. I have posted a screenshot of what I am seeing in OSTicket though in the same email settings for a new user. This is the same as it looks for an existing user too:

I've contacted scottro to see if he can approve the pending images.

Are you sure that you are going to:

Admin Panel -> Emails -> click on email.

Because your post makes it sound like you are going to:

Admin Panel -> Staff -> click on staff.

He just approved the images. You are in Staff. You should be in Email.

Definitely sure. Going to Admin Panel -> Emails tab and clicking on either an existing listed email or clicking the "Add New email" tab.

Currently using osTicket 1.6.4 (release 6).

Is that an older version? Not sure what the current is. This is what Plesk Panel 10 includes in the applications vault.

I don't recognize the version numbers at all. The latest version is 1.6.0 ST. I recommend installing the (official version) instead.

Ok, I completely removed the existing osticket installation which was installed from the Plesk Panel Application Vault.

I manually installed the version available from osticket website but had way too many problems trying to get it to work and had to go back to the version Plesk provides.

So, I am back to the same point. No place to configure SMTP settings in OSticket.

I am sure that there must be a way to manually force SMTP usage through a config file somewhere. Can anyone shed any light on this?

After doing a quick Google search for

Plesk "Application Vault" +osTicket +email +configuration

I may have found your problem, it is the Plesk Application Vault that probably removes this section from your install.

You see installers like the Plesk Application Vault, Fantastico and Softalicious select Open Source applications that they can modify and distribute. Plesk even have a distribution of osTicket that sounds very impressive integrating with Plesk as the support system of choice so server admins can support customers and resellers customers with the single osTicket installation.

I am under the belief that when installed from the Application Vault you need to run osTicket with email piping set up to postfix Plesk distribution, if this is the case you most likely will not be able to use this osTicket version with Gmail.

If you want to use osTicket with email piping (maybe use a sub-domain that uses the internal server for email - e.g. @[deleted]), check out (this information/tutorial). Be warned, read this in its entirety, you need the right permissions and some knowledge to use this solution so it may not work.

I hope this is helpful and sorry for what seems to be bad news for you.
