I'm in a small company and we don't (can't) monitor the helpdesk 24x7 so what we want is to receive an email anytime a new ticket gets opened.

I can't find a way to do that from within the program, does anyone know how to set this up? Is there a mod for this?

Admin Panel > Settings

Scroll right to the bottom and enable the notifications for new tickets etc.

Make sure you have your email settings already configured as well.

Hmm - I've checked all the boxes (spammy) and me/dept members still aren't receiving alerts...
