First of all the last two answers are spam. Please delete them. I also have the same problem. Also "=" showing up in url. Bump this thread as the answer given doesn't make sense to me.

Under admin panel->emails->email templates.
If the html tags are still showing within the emails there maybe a Format:($body) call after the template is loaded, which can we commented out if you would like to use html in the body of an email
(which I think is the way to go, who doesn't have an html capable email client these days?)
