Install Issue

Hi,

I downloaded and began the installation process. All went well during the installation until I get to the first screen "osTicketvertion 1.6 - Basic installation"

After entering the default email, admin user, database information I hit the install button and nothing happens. It is like the Install button is assoicated with an exit function.

I am running it on a Windows XP Prof with Apache.

Anyone have any ideas for what may be going wrong?

I presume that you have PHP installed?

You might want to take a look at the logs and see if you are getting an error.

I also presume that you have a MySQL server setup and created the database and a user that has rights to it?

I have PHP installed, and have MySQL installed version 5.1. I don't know how to create a database though, all i have to work with is a command line interface. I've been trying to get myphp working, but it's complicated. Any advice as to how to either use a sample or create a database with MySQL would be appreciated. Thanks

I actually have created a database using mysql from a command prompt. Can someone tell me how to assign a username and password to it? Thanks

I have a database, with username and password with all privileges set. however this is screenshots I'm currently facing. Please advise

To create the database you can at the command prompt run:

mysql -u <username> -p

CREATE <databasename>;

Then to make the user and grant him privs you do:

CREATE USER '<dbusername>'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'some_pass';

GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO '<dbusername>'@'localhost';

FLUSH PRIVILEGES;

Or at least it should be close to this. Make sure that you change username to your MySQL username. Which you probably setup when you installed MySQL. change dbusername to the username ( and some_pass to your password that you want to use for OST.

Then go back to the screen shot you provided and enter the details there.

the only way i could get it to accept the install was to use username root and a password assigned, is that going to be a problem?

It's not an ideal configuration, as the root user has more permissions then is required to run the site. From a security stand point, this is a no no. If your OST site is hacked and they manage to get the password, they will have your root password. Since the username and password are stored locally in a file in the webtree this seems to be a lot higher of a risk then I would be willing to take. Will it work? Sure.

If you are having problems setting up users with cli, you might try downloading MySQL Workbench or Mysql Administrator (deprecated). Both have means of creating and editing user accounts within MySQL.
