cant get logged in

I have searched for this topic and sorry if i missed it.

I am at the login screen for my system i have the log in user name and pasword that i specified during setup but when i type it in it simply returns to the same screen. I know i have the info right and when i tye something wrong on purpose i get a message saying wrong info.

As i said i know i have the info correct and still no joy just refreshes the login screen and blanks the fields.

It did this same thing to me on an old install that i had not used so i removed and reinstalled (in a new directory) becasue i thought maybe i forgot but as i said i have the info right in front of me.

So the first two install were done via Fantastico I removed all tracces of them and downloaded the file and followed the installation instruction herein. i filled in all the info on the setup page and was told the install was a success. Still the same. Enter valid info the screen redraws and blanks the fields. enter invalid info and the screen redraws and says invalid info.

Using Firefox in Ubuntu and have tried from two machines.

Anyone have any idea what permission is wrong etc. to cause this?

It could be an issue of the PHP session save path being set incorrectly.
