Mail problem

Ok I have ready every possible post on this Forum trying to resolve my email problem and cant seem to get anywhere!

I tried this

But just got blank pages when changing code...

anyway I installed a fresh version of OST, I am running it on our own Fedora server with latest php, msql and everything is working fine except still stuck with email

we have our own pop server and I manage that so I know all the settings is correct, now I get these errors.

Failed to connect to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

And under the username and password I get this

Unable to login. Check SMTP settings.

Please if anyone can help me please please I need to get this ticket system working ASAP

PS Also saw this enabling pop

Can't connect to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx,110: Permission denied

I finally figured out what was going on and got the mailer working...

I submitted a few tests tickets, but the emails kept ending up as NDRs in root's mailbox. The errors kept saying rejected by the network's spam filter, which meant Sendmail wasn’t routing email to the SMTP server, instead it was routing to the MX servers (where the spam filter operates). I disabled SMTP use, and switched to the PHPMailer, added the osTicket server's IP to the "Safe IP" list on the spam filter and now the emails got delivered.
