HelpDesk Name Not Showing on Home Page

Good Morning,

We are new to the product and installed the software from a Fantastico

Control Panel. It was exceptionally easy to do, and appeared to work

flawlessly.

This morning I had to jump thru 1-2 hoops to figure out the URL for the

Admin, but that was pretty simple, too. I then set-about to customize

the site and changed the Admin >> Settings >> HelpDesk Name, expecting

to see the information on the Home Page.

A little bit ago I started user-testing and discovered that the new name

does not appear anywhere on Index.PHP.

Could someone give me some background here ? What is the HelpDesk

Name field used for ? And, where does the data show-up ?

I would really recommend you download the latest source and do a manual install rather than relying on Fantastico. Installations from Fantastico are prone to breakage and weird settings, since they see fit to modify the code before bundling it with their product and I don't believe they're up to date on the latest version.

Installation is quick and simple. You can find our install docs (here). The good folks over at linux.com also recently wrote a nice (installation tutorial) which you may find useful.

Two more things...

First, can I assume from your initial response that OSTICKET is supposed to make use of the HelpDesk Name data ?

Second, just checked the version of OSticket which is on the Fantastico Control Panel. It is 1.6.0, just like the version on the OSticket site.

Off the top of my head, I *think* right now the only place it's used is page titles. I could be wrong, though.

We'll have much better support for customsing things in the future.

Helpdesk Name

The 'Helpdesk Name' in the Admin Panel does only change the 'title bar' for the web page. To change other information in the site you will need an HTML editor. It took me a while to find all the locations to actually change them but if you just google 'osticket+page titles' you can find the location to change all of those.

To change the 'information' on your home page to reflect what you want the verbage to say you'll need to edit the main page for the site in your HTML editor.

It's actually very simple once you get the basic understanding ouf the sites internal layout.
