What is the API section in preferences?

I am trying to find out what the API section in the preferences of the admin panel is for. Have not been able to locate documentation on this subject.

Hi,

In the installation package, in the folder scripts, there are two files: automail.php and automail.pl.

In these files the API key is mentioned.

The API section is to be able to generate the API keys these automail scripts use to connect to the osTicket application.
