Hi,

Great software, however, there really isn't much documentation surrounding the System Preferences and Settings. I sort of expected there would be information about this in the Wiki but there isn't. Searching the forums is very cumbersome and you often have to read through a lot of posts before you find anything that's relevant.

Would it be possible to update the wiki with some information on what each of the items in System Preferences and Settings controls. Certainly some are self-explanatory, however some are not particularly clear e.g.

Default System Email: is this the originating email or where emails are sent, and what's it for?

Default Alert Email: it says "Used to send out alerts and notices to staff." Ok fine, but is that where emails are coming from or going to?

System Admin Email Address: what is this used for?

Also under Edit Emails

Authentication Required?: well, the email address requires username and password to be entered before sending emails, but is that what this field does or does it do something else? Despite having the correct details on our form it fails to save with Authentication checked and saves although does not send emails with it unchecked.

I can look at the code to see what some of these things do but it would be much easier for all if this info was available on the Wiki or as part of a guide somewhere.

Default System Email:

The default system email. eg. when you received a reply to your ticket that email account will show up.

Default Alert Email:

If there's a database error or something, this email account will warn the admin email.

System Admin Email Address:

The emailaddress of the owner. eg. webmaster@yourdomain.com

Authentication Required?

Isn't this with 'Check Tickets'

Hi Vincent,

Thanks for the reply but it's still not clear, anyway my point is that this information should be within a settings guide in the Wiki. It shouldn't be a case that every person who is unsure of a setting has to post a message in the forum.

Does that sound sensible?

Yes, it does.

Anyhow, I'm not a team member here, but if needed I could remake the Wiki.

I will ask Peter about this.

Vincent,

Many thanks for the prompt response Vincent, ultimately I think having a settings guide would be hugely useful. At the very least it would cut down on the time helpful people like you spend posting the same responses to questions.

Thanks again.

If anyone wants to add to the wiki, they're welcome to do so.

We know the current set of documentaiton is lacking, and it's going to get a complete rewrite before the next version is released.

If I have time, I will try and put together a brief settings guide, but I make no guarantees-really busy as of alte.

As I've said, I'd be happy to.
