POP3 Doesn't work

OK, great ticket system but poor POP3 settings.

I've read endless amount of posts where people are have problems connecting with POP3.

Why is it so hard?

I enter my correct POP3 details and it says Invalid when I know DAM right they are correct.

OS Ticket developers, please make this easy to use. Why do we have to write cron jobs ect just to get email to work.

I get the message:

Invalid login. Check POP settings

No other information as to why OS Ticket doesn't connect....... what next?

Has someone written a usefull tutorial showing how to connect to POP emails accounts?

Do you know anything at all about POP protocol? The server has to make a successful handshake with the mail server. A successful handshake depends on many factors - some beyond osTicket control.

1) Ports open? Some host block ports.

2) DNS lookup working?

3) What authentication method the email server accepts

4) What version of IMAP extension is installed (used by POP3)

5) Encryption/SSL support on PHP installation (depends on #3 above)

Dave, the point is it's not about simply punching some key - it is dependent on many factors beyond osTicket control and various from one installation to next. We've tried our best to make the code generic enough but we can't account for every possible server configuration or PHP setting out there.

Lastly, you need cron setup when using POP/IMAP because something has to initiate email fetching. If you don't want to use cron then look into email piping stead - http://osticket.com/wiki/Email_Settings(http://osticket.com/wiki/Email_Settings)

I'm in tears at the moments because I've spent 2 days trying to connect via POP.

Yes, we've added SPF record, and DomainKeys for this domain.

3). What authentication protocol the email server accepts

SMTP authentication is supported, as is IMAP and POP3 authentication.

4). What version of IMAP extention is installed (used by POP3)

We use courier-imap, which comes with cPanel

What should I try as host address, the full domain?

Surely it can't be this hard to connect.

I don't have an answer to your problem without access to the server . That being said, it looks like you're using the wrong port. 25/26 are usually for SMTP not POP - for most hosts it's 110. Check with your host.

OK, to anyone reading this.

I posted my first question in frustration, please read with some sense of humor.

You MUST setup a Cron job, if you don't know how then request your hosts to do it!! If they give you some lame excuse then move host immediately.

Then set the port to 110 not like shitty cPanel says use port 26!!

DONE!!
