I have made some modifications as found on the forum here to track time, make it easier to assign tickets, as well as adding a "status" column to our ticket view in the staff panel. All of this was working fine before I had to make a few tweeks and must have tweaked too much because now the sort --- doesn't. :

I have been around HTML for a while, but just getting my nose wet with PHP and the like, we recently lost our Web Admin and I am having to fill his shoes for now, so any help you can provide in guiding me would be great.

Let me know what source code you might need and I will be glad to post it.

I have had issues with correct sorting too. I moved on to more urgent things, so haven't really done much with it as yet.

I am assuming that the sorting you refer to is in the staff control panel, where you can sort by various columns?

The file in question is most likely includes/staff/tickets.inc.php

It would also be helpful if you could identify which colums are sorting 'correctly' and which are not.

The sort will work for: Ticket ID, Date, and department. To some extent it will work for status in this view putting everyone in alpha order. My main desire is to fix the sort for assigned tickets on page: /scp/tickets.php?status=assigned[

What would be even greater would be to deposit all CLOSED tickets in some way to it's own area that assignees will then only see OPEN tickets. Perhaps adding a "My Closed Tickets" type of option.

That may be too far fetched. If you could do something like that a sort wouldn't be an issue. We are using this ticket system at a college and I personally have well over 500 tickets (most of which are closed) but have some on going tickets assigned for on going project updates that are buried way down in may pages.
