Hi everyone,
I’m running a niche content website focused on the NYT Letter Boxed puzzle (hints, solutions, strategy guides), and I’ve started using osTicket to handle questions, feedback, and support requests from my visitors.
I’ve got osTicket installed and working, but I’d really appreciate advice on improving the setup for an educational content site like mine.
My Current Setup
VPS hosting (Ubuntu/Debian) with Virtualmin control panel
osTicket (latest version) installed under a subdomain: support.mydomain.com
Email piping set up so users can submit tickets via contact form and email
Basic departments: Support, Feedback, Bug Reports
What I’m Looking For Help With
- Best Practices for Department Structure
My current setup has 3 departments, but I’m wondering if there’s a better way to organize support areas that fit a content site.
Should I split tickets by topic (e.g., “Hint Request”, “Bug/Issue”, “Content Suggestion”)?
Or is it better to keep general support + tags/categories?
Any input from folks with high-traffic or educational sites would be great!
- Automations & SLA
I want to set up:
✔ Auto-responses
✔ Ticket escalation rules
✔ Priority/SLA for certain ticket types
But I’m unsure how to configure these for maximum efficiency without overwhelming users.
Questions:
What automations do you recommend?
How do you manage SLA timings for non-urgent support?
- User Notifications & Email Deliverability
Sometimes users report they don’t receive ticket replies — I suspect email deliverability issues.
Questions:
Do you recommend specific SMTP setups or email services for better delivery?
Any tips on SPF/DKIM/DMARC settings to reduce spam filtering?
- Custom Forms
I’d love to create custom support forms:
Hint requests (puzzle input)
Bug reports (with screenshot/file upload)
Question: Any pointers on how to structure custom forms that feed cleanly into osTicket workflows?
TL;DR
I’m using osTicket for my NYT Letter Boxed support desk and would love guidance on:
📌 Department organization
📌 Automations & SLAs
📌 Email deliverability
📌 Custom form design
Thanks in advance for your help — excited to learn from everyone here!
