We have noticed that after adding or mofify elements under SCP - admin - manage - Custom Lists, the search results with search criteria related to entries in the list are no longer available, older tickets are no longer found, specifically after the date the list was changed, earlier tickets with the same name in the list are no longer found, only newer ones from the date of the change.

It seems that all elements of the custom lists are given different ID numbers in the sql table, which affects the search results, which refer to objects in the list using search criteria.
We have long custom lists. Are there any limitations?

A List Item's ID will not change unless you delete it and re-added it. As for why that happens when you edit it, it depends. What exactly are you doing when updating the list?

We also observe that the SQL table "ost_list_items" continues to grow and become longer. The rows with the same name are given new ID numbers. The old row remains but has the value NULL in the "list_id" column. In our case, we want the ID numbers to remain the same. Is there an option for this in the configuration?

We have a very long custom list. When drag entries up or down, we encounter the problem that all rows are randomly mixed up, the manual sorting is no longer correct. However, it works when we use the import button, but then the entries get new ID numbers.

Ah, yea seems like a bug for import not ignoring duplicates. For now, you don't need to import any duplicates. You will need to only import new items or manually add new items. As for old values you'll need to write a script that updates the values to the new IDs or manually go update each one.

Thanks for your reply, I think we've found a solution. I increased the value in the for loop on line 210 in profile.inc.php from 50 to 500. This makes it possible to increase the maximum page size on the profile page, so that the entire list opens. Draging elements up and down works now. We'll probably delete the "ost_list_items" table and import the old one from before. If the list opens on a single page, there will be no problems.
