Fetching E-Mails from Strato Mailserver

Hi everyone,

I’m currently trying to set up email fetching in osTicket using a mailbox provided by Strato (Germany-based email hosting), but I’m running into some issues and would appreciate any guidance.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

Email address: service@echo-connect.de

Incoming mail server: imap.strato.de

Port: 993

Encryption: SSL

Authentication: full email address and correct password (verified via webmail)

Unfortunately, osTicket is unable to fetch emails from this mailbox. I’ve tested the credentials outside of osTicket (e.g., via Thunderbird and webmail), and everything works fine, so I believe the login itself is valid.

I suspect it could be related to one of the following:

osTicket having trouble with Strato’s SSL certificate

PHP not supporting the required IMAP functions

A server-side firewall or connection issue blocking outbound access to Strato’s IMAP server

Some compatibility issue between osTicket and Strato’s mail system

I’ve checked that the IMAP module is enabled in PHP, but I’m still stuck. Has anyone successfully used osTicket with Strato mail, or does anyone have experience troubleshooting similar issues?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

[Sending E-Mails from the Email out is working, only Fetching does do errors.]

I don’t use it but I know people have in the past with no issues. You can try a telnet to that host and port from the server’s cli.

KevinTheJedi im using an Strato webspace with a Strato E-Mail adress.

I cant run telnet on those unfortunately. - I was trying to implement another SMTP Server but im struggeling with many many things here.

cannot connect to host; error = stream_socket_client(): Unable to connect to tcp://smtp-relay.brevo.com:587 (Connection timed out) (errno = 0 )

(This error is the one i get when trying to use brevo as an SMTP.)

The input appears to be a DNS hostname but cannot match TLD against known list, The input does not appear to be a valid URI hostname, The input does not appear to be a valid local network name

The error Connection timed out likely indicates firewall, blocked port, etc. You need to contact your hosting provider to see if they have any external SMTP restrictions, etc. It's very common these days for shared hosts to have external SMTP restrictions.

As for The input appears to be a DNS hostname but cannot match TLD against known list ... I've seen that a few times and it's almost always with Strato mailserver. I cannot find that error in our codebase anywhere but can find it in Zend-Validator. I think laminas-mail package we use utilizes this package. So the issue would be upstream in the laminas-mail package; not osTicket. Unfortunately I don't have a fix unless you go modify the zend-validator code directly.
