Cannot get SMTP to work with Gmail for the life of me!

Hi Everyone,
I have been struggling to get SMTP working with my gmail account, no matter which route I take OAuth or apppassword I either get XOAUTH2 authentication mechanism not supported or Incorrect authentication data even though it works on other platforms. I have tried 1.18.2 and 1.17.6. I am using a2 hosting as the host, the OAuth works I get a token, just cannot get SMTP to work, I have dug through everything in this forum and have and I am at a loss.

Sounds like your host is blocking external SMTP. Have you contacted them about it?

They are blocking it the response I got was

`A2 Hosting enforces SMTP sending restrictions to help prevent outgoing spam from our servers. It only takes one user sending spam from a server to negatively impact e-mail for all of that server's users.

Use of an HTTP API using standard ports is not limited for Web Hosting and Reseller accounts. Ask your mail provider if they offer an API to use instead of SMTP.`

Which brings be down the rabbit hole of using OAuth2, which is not supported.

What are my options?
The email address which customers email, I own have access to that email address and not the server/domain it is hosted on.

Maybe they misunderstood you? Clarify and say you mean you are trying to connect your mail provider's mail server via SMTP to a web application. Ask if they restrict/block External SMTP specifically.

If they do restrict External SMTP then you must ask your host to lift their restrictions, or ask if there is a hosting plan where SMTP is not restricted, or move to a new host. Unfortunately, when using a hosting provider you are at their mercy.
