Deleting Users, Tickets and Attachments - S3

Hey there,

If I have a ticket with various attachments, then I delete that ticket, is the attachment deleted from AWS when using S3 storage?

Also when you delete tickets and users, is there anything that is left behind in the database relating to the user inputted content - I.e. Names and personal data?

Yes, if the same file isn’t attached elsewhere. Also, files are not deleted right away. They are queued for deletion and deleted after 24-48 hours (I can’t remember which one off the top of my head) via cron. We deduplicate file uploads meaning if you upload a file then later upload the same file with a different name we will not re-upload the file data we will only create a record for the new name and reference the existing stored file data. This is of course only when the file data is identical. If it’s any different it will be uploaded again.

When you delete tickets and data it’s permanent so no there shouldn’t be any lingering data.

This is a helpful explainer.
One thing I noticed though.
It's quite annoying when you create an FAQ with an attachment for example, and you upload a file such as a PDF that has downloaded with the "crdownload" extension so it wont open properly. Then you realise this mistake an correct the filename. The system will seemingly take the new file with the corrected extension (e.g. just *.PDF without .crdownload after it). But actually when you click to download it's the one with the erroneous file name.
I've deleted the attachment and FAQ from my OST install and will try recreating it again in 24-48 hrs in the hope that the old file is deleted in the way you describe.

Sounds like your webserver or maybe even web browser is caching the file. I’d clear all cache cookies and sessions and retest. If that still doesn’t work then you can wait for it to be deleted where you can re-upload it.

KevinTheJedi Thanks. If you mean to clear cache etc and retry download I did try that and it was the original (unwanted) file. I haven't tried clearing sessions on the web server. I might just wait and try again as it's only one file and I can't be bothered logging onto the server at the moment.
