How do I modify my osticket 1.7?

Hello!

First off, I'm a huge noob at databasing and modifying so please don't hate me.

So now that I got that out of the way, I have some help with modifying and knowing how to modify my osticket. I just finished installing and setting up osticket 1.7 on my server.

Now my questions are, what program do I use for modifying the product and how do I go about it? I have workbench 6.0, is that able to modify the fields of the ticket?

How do I go about starting to modify the product? Is there a tutorial on how to start modifying osticket?

I'm trying to add and change some fields of the osticket system to include things like address, service tag, serial number, model number, operating system of a computer, password, etc on the ticket itself. How do I go about starting to do that and what programs would I need if workbench doesn't work.

Again, I apologize in advance for my noobishness and I'm just looking for a way to learn how to do things with osticket. I hope you guys/gals can help me! Thanks again in advance!

It really depends on what you want to modify.

If you need to change something in the database then you would need either MySQL WorkBench or a 3rd party DB app (I personally use Navicat Lite).

You of course will need some sort of understanding of how MySQL works.

If you want to change the display or functionality of the software then you would need a text editor or programming GUI. I use Notepad++ and HTMLKit for most of my website and coding needs.

You will also need some understanding with HTML, CSS, and PHP.

The only problem I'm having now is trying to understand how I can modify it? I see in the mod section that you just add a line of code to some file, but what files do you add them to?

Do I just export the entirety of the server onto navicat to mod it that way, and do I just type in new code with notepad ++ and import it into the database files? Or is there a different way to do it?

You can modify it however you like.

If your going to make changes to the live database you would use the DB editor.

If you are going to make changes to the live site you would use the text editor.

Part of the whole experience is also learning what pages display what parts of the project and how everything fits together.
