Problem with sending email / replying after upgrading to 1.17.3

Hi all,
i decided upgrading from osticket 1.15 to the latest version 1.17.3 by moving to a new VM with ubuntu 20 and php 8.2.
After the upgrade, Email fetching is working correctly but when i try to reply i keep getting "Unable to email via SMTP: aai@domain.gr (plain://mail.mymailserver.gr:25/SMTP) 5.5.1 Error: authentication not enabled" error messages.
From the mail server side the SMTP log pops up the following messages :

(i have removed some censored info).

In the attached images you can see the Info from the new osTicket installation, the mailer settings and the error system log.
I really haven't changed anything in terms of email SMTP authentication after the upgrade and everything looks normal .

i am totally puzzled.
any ideas?

PHP 8.2 is not supported yet. Downgrade to PHP 8.1. Also, it’s saying PLAIN authentication method is not available/enabled on your server. If you use port 25 that’s typically a relay port that doesn’t need authentication. If this is the case then set authentication for SMTP to None, save changes, and retest.

my email server from which we send the responsed have STARTTLS and TLS enabled on port 25.
I managed to solve my problem by adding tls://mail.mymailserver.com at the host field.
It seems that at previous osticket versions STARTTLS was enabled by default. but at this version not.

Please read the Helptip for the Hostname. We now detect what encryption to use based on the port you use. If it’s a standard port we automatically add the necessary encryption. If using a non-standard port you must type-hint the encryption as you have done. Port 25 traditionally doesn’t use TLS so we don’t add it automatically. In this case you would need to type-hint.
